Transforming Residential Home Design–Rural House Addition
The clients wanted an new residential home design for their rambling weatherboard house built in the 1960’s on a large rural site in Kumeu. Previous owner’s have removed walls to open up the small kitchen, dining and lounge areas, and a minor dwelling had been added to the site.
It was crying out for connection to the level nicely orientated tree surrounded site. A lounge extension, with a new front entry and more decking were part of the home design. The client wanted nice spaces to sit, to enjoy their surroundings, and a pool to swim in. All of which now connects nicely with the house interior. Windows and doors are altered to allow more indoor outdoor connection, and a good sized garage with internal access, and a laundry have been attached. The main house needed to provide privacy from the existing minor dwelling, and the position of deck screening was designed to do this. The new cedar vertical cladding in black makes a nice contrast with the now black original horizontal weatherboards.
A new renovated kitchen design, new built in woodburning fire and oak flooring are included in the work done. The chimney was to be a feature on the exterior and add character to the home. The client’s tasteful decoration inside makes for a lovely transformation with a David Trubridge light shade featuring in the living room.
